Pray for The Father's Ranch!

"I will lift up my eyes to the mountains; from whence shall my help come? My help comes from the LORD, who made heaven and earth.
He will not allow your foot to slip; He who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, He who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.
The LORD is your keeper; the LORD is your shade on your right hand. The sun will not smite you by day, nor the moon by night.
The LORD will protect you from all evil; He will keep your soul. The LORD will guard your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forever."
Psalm 121

Hello Everyone,

It’s been a busy day today to say the least. We've been running chainsaws, weed wackers, sprinklers and watering hoses all day.

KREM news out of Spokane came by the ranch unexpectedly, and did a full story on the fire and TFR. It aired this evening at 5 and 6 I guess. We don't have TV so we didn't see it, but they said it was airing this evening. They filmed, interviewed and broadcasted while we worked. They asked if they could come back again tomorrow and we agreed. They are a bit in the way, and not particularly liked very much by the firefighters we noticed, but they too have a job to do I suppose.

Fire has burned up to TFR, within 200 yards now, and TFR is now being used as the front lines staging area for DNR and other fire crews. We've been inundated with fire trucks, pickups, and firefighters. We're at the highest evacuation level without actually been required to leave.

The fire had been 70% contained today at noon until the winds kicked up, as expected, with gusts over 50 mph. It forced all of the air support to the ground, and caused the fire to jump every single fire line and cat trail they had made, and they lost all containment. They are starting again, right from our doorstep. The mountain to our North and West (Cayuse) is completely engulfed or charred. It has forced deer and black bears across our property in record numbers. It is quite a sight. (Looks like I'll need to find a new deer hunting area this fall.)

The wind has died down again tonight and they are trying to get a handle on the fire again. The firefighters at TFR are dirty, dead tired and in need of sleep. Our girls have been working hard too. They have been cooking and baking food for the men, trying to keep them going. The men have been very respectful and very appreciative. We are sending a couple gals to the grocery store first thing in the morning to get more supplies.

The day shift that started this morning at 6:00 a.m. just left TFR and is now being replaced by the night shift. They are working 24 hours around the clock. We've moved all of the gals into one home to free up one home for the fire fighters to use if they want. Showers, bathrooms, beds, whatever.

Tomorrow is another day and they tell us that “hot spots” could keep TFR in danger for at least a week or more.

We’re tired and shutting down for the night. We start at 6:00 am again tomorrow morning. (I wonder if the firefighters will want to help with barn chores?) ;)

We have unscheduled, unexpected guests at the ranch tonight. Just when you think your ministry has been defined with borders and definition, the Lord blows it completely wide open, giving opportunity in ways you never saw coming. Amazing! We wonder what the Lord has in store next. He is good.

Thank you for the prayers and encouragement. Please keep them up. We need them.

Yours in Christ,

Craig Lofthus
Executive Director
