I Kissed Dating Goodbye

Yes, I'm reading "I Kissed Dating Goodbye." No, I haven't really kissed dating goodbye. haha I am very much dating a wonderful man named Dirk. :-) Nicki and I started a book club with the girls in youth group. It was their suggestion to read the book and Nicki and I decided to help them with it and start a "book club". So we are meeting as often as we can (once a week), at least as much as the summer allows. We had our first meeting last week and had a fondue night and talked about how we wanted to go about studying the book. This week (tomorrow) we are having a spa day at my house! Brittany is coming and is going to cut/curl/anything girls want done to their hair and we'll give each other massages and manicures and pedicures and facials and all kinds of stuff. Then we'll be going over the first two chapters of "I Kissed Dating Goodbye". I created a blog for it where I'll review what we did each week for the girls who were not able to come and where I announce what we will be doing for that week.

We are planning on each time we meet doing something fun along with our study. We have lots planned! Photo days, a Seattle trip, a beach day, a cooking day...etc. It shall be lots of fun! So really, I'm teaching about "I Kissed Dating Goodbye." hahaha So for our first official meeting disucssing the book I came up with some discussion questions and I have a little something for each girl to take home as a reminder. It is a verse that I've kind of based my dating upon - or at least wanted to base it upon. haha The book talks about how love and faithfulness are connected and how important commitment is in a relationship. To the left is a picture of what I've been working on. :-) They are the size of business cards and I'm putting them against funky colored paper. So the girls can put them in their wallets or on their walls or something as a little reminder to what we will talk about having to do with the book. The verse is Proverbs 20:6, "Many a man claims unfailing love, but a faithful man who can find?"

So tomorrow I start my freelancing! In the morning I'll be going to camp Kilworth, where some boy scouts are doing some restoration to the camp to bring it back to its former glory. It's for the Federal Way News. So I'll be interviewing some kids and stuff about it. :-) I'm excited. I'll also be writing for the Federal Way Mirror and The Highline Times this summer. So I'll have to post links to my articles if they get online too. I finished my internship at the Redmond Reporter. My last photos having to do with that internship were actually for the Bothell Reporter for Inglemoor's graduation. Got 4 photos in there for that (photo to the right). Pretty snazzy huh? I have a whole stack of newspapers with my photos in them. You can check them out at my portfolio too (at least the ones that were online.) I have a friend who is good friends with a photographer at the P-I and said he'll get me his contact information and that I could probably do some photos for them if I wanted to!! So maybe you all will be seeing me on the P-I's website soon!! hehehehe

What else has been going on? I've been so busy I haven't had much time for anything. So recently I've developed neck pain. Really really bad neck pain. It started during finals week. If you see my Twitter or Facebook you've probably seen updates having to do with it. I went to a doctor at Hall Health several hours before my ethics final which I couldn't study for due to my neck pain. She informed me that it was due to stress. Just before my appointment my mom got me a neck massage to relieve the tension that had built up in my shoulders and neck. It helped a TON, but even with it helping a ton I was still in a massive amount of pain. So she gave me muscle relaxers and pain killers. Took the pain killers, studied, took my final and then fell asleep due to the muscle relaxers. The pain went away until monday night. While playing dodgeball I ran into one of the guys and his elwbow went into my shoulder. Since then my shoulder has been hurting pretty bad and it brought back the neck pain. I was also stressed out the past few days so its gotten worse. The doctor said if it keeps happening I need to get physical therepy to learn how to relax and correct posture. :-(

Well its late and I have to get up early to interview people. So this will have to be all for now! <3

You might find my blog of interest where I critique Josh Harris's book:

www.ikdg.wordpress.com
"I Kissed Dating Goodbye: Wisdom or Foolishness?"

I believe his book has both. Unfortunately Josh Harris isn't that transparent about sharing the problems his approach has caused though he is quick to point out what he sees as the defects of dating.

Hope this helps.

Hey Steve,
Actually when Google searching the book and looking for a study guide to go along with it I found your site. Interesting. I haven't had the chance to thoroughly look through it though.

This is actually my second time reading the book. As one of the two people leading the study we are approaching it with the thought that, the girls can take from it what they want. I know every aspect of the book doesn't apply to my life but there are a lot of good pieces of godly advice to how we approach relationships.

Thank you though!
